Dragon Soul: Heroic Morchok defeated

Dragon Soul

13th January 2012: Heroic-mode Dragon Soul gets underway, with Morchok and Korchrom ground to dust.

Last week, the last of our regular progression-team raiders picked up the normal-mode Madness of Deathwing kills and thus gained their 'Detroyer's End' titles. With that out of the way, this week we felt free to start working on our first heroic-mode.

The consensus out there on the internet is that Morchok really isn't very challenging on heroic, and indeed he fell pretty quickly after we sorted out some minor issues. Amusingly, we managed to get a slightly buggy kill whereby Morchok died, we gained the achievement, everybody cheered, and then looked on in surprise as we realised that Korchrom hadn't despawned and was busy killing people! Not the cleanest of kills then, but a kill's a kill.

Congratulations to Bovril, Canthus, Davegotsu, Eloradanan, Falcon, Glädje, Huagh, Jintsu, Moomann, & Skystalker for the kill.

Dragon Soul: Madness of Deathwing defeated

Dragon Soul

13th December 2011: The Destroyer is destroyed - Tier 13 cleared!

We defeated Spine of Deathwing for the first time on Sunday night, and had enough time to fit in our first few attempts on Madness of Deathwing. Having learned a lot from those few attempts, we came back in on Tuesday for a full night of Madness.

It took a couple of hours and we were coming perilously close to running out of time, but we kept our focus up and Deathwing died with about half an hour to spare before we would have had to call it until next week. It isn't a terribly difficult fight; most of the difficulty is in putting out enough DPS, handling the unslowed Elementium Bolt on the fourth platform, and making sure the Elementium Terrors don't make mincement out of your tanks during the final phase. The first three platforms however really shouldn't present much difficulty provided you have a good idea of what needs to be done.

Congratulations to Bovril, Canthus, Davegotsu, Eloradanan, Falcon, Glädje, Moomann, Sererinn, Skystalker, & Wetpatch for the first of many kills.

Ruby Sanctum: Halion defeated

Ruby Sanctum

6th July 2010: <Cause And Effect> defend the Ruby Sanctum from the invasion of the Black and Twilight Dragonflights.

Halion was a short, fun fight that was an interesting diversion. To those still working on it, the main challenge will be getting Phase 2 right - once you've done that, Phase 3 will fall very quickly.

Congratulations to Bloodoath, Dakk, Davegotsu, Elleria, Eloradanan, Grarl, Huagh, Independance, Jintsu, and Mournbringer for their kill.

Now to refocus back on our main goal - defeating the Lich King. We're now reaching the third (and effectively final) phase, so watch this space.

Icecrown Citadel: Rotface defeated

Icecrown Citadel

21st March 2010: The guild moves to 6/12 encounters defeated in Icecrown Citadel, with a kill of Rotface.

Early attempts were reliably hitting the 45%-60% zone before a couple of deaths led the oozes to start running amok. The promise was there, and we tidied up a bit and managed to get to 20% and the kill was in sight. Sadly, someone then had to leave, but with a depleted raid we pushed on regardless and managed to score our first kill soon after with only nine people.

Congratulations to Adrieth, Bloodoath, Dakk, Davegotsu, Elleria, Grarl, Huagh, Independance, & Mournbringer for their kill; and commiserations to Jintsu who was forced to leave just before the kill that he'd helped us towards.

Icecrown Citadel: Festergut defeated

Icecrown Citadel

4th March 2010: Delayed again by some departures and the need to gear up some alts to compensate, our Icecrown progress was restarted tonight, as we gained our first kill of Festergut.

A few weeks ago, we made several attempts on Festergut and managed a best of 20%, but some changes to the guild roster then delayed us following up on that progress. Tonight, after some reorganisation and gearing-up of alts, we were finally able to capitalise on the work we'd put in all those weeks ago - by killing him with ease on the first attempt.

Congratulations to Adrieth, Dakk, Davegotsu, Eloradanan, Falcon, Gjara, Glädje, Huagh, Jintsu, & new recruit Sererinn for their kill.

Trial of the Crusader: Revisited

Trial of the Crusader

19th January 2010: Anub'arak brought down for the first time since the revamped guild restarted raiding.

With Icecrown Citadel rightly having taken most of our attention over the past few weeks, and the need to spend some raidtime on the weekly raiding quest each week, we haven't spent a great deal of time in the Crusader's Coliseum. Since the guild picked itself up and restarted raiding back in December, we'd yet to progress beyond downing Lord Jaraxxus.

This week refreshed the 'cleared' status of normal-mode Trial of the Crusader. The Beasts Of Northrend were dispatched without trouble; Lord Jaraxxus was banished back to wherever that silly gnome pulled him from; The Faction Champions were nuked down before they even had a chance to complain about the realm's battleground queues; The Val'kyr Twins were promptly taken out for the speed-kill achievement; and then Anub'arak's attempt to interrupt the celebrations was thwarted when we took him out too.

Although a large part of the loot was disenchanted, some useful upgrades were found - including a trinket (often hard to come by) and a couple of pieces of tanking gear, which will prove useful towards Icecrown progression.

Icecrown Citadel: Deathbringer Saurfang defeated

Icecrown Citadel

12th January 2010: After swift one-shot-kills of Lord Marrowgar, Lady Deathwhisper and The Gunship Battle, we face last week's nemesis, Deathbringer Saurfang, and this time emerge victorious.

It's always satisfying to return to a raid instance for the second time and prove that the previous week was no fluke, and that's exactly what we did this week. Each of Lord Marrowgar, Lady Deathwhisper and The Gunship Battle were defeated in a single attempt, and all with the group including guildmembers that had yet to see any of the fights in person.

After that, then, we were left standing in front of Deathbringer Saurfang, the boss that had managed to keep us at bay last week, with our best efforts producing only the so-near-but-yet-so-far of a 13% wipe. We were determined not to let him get the better of us again, and although it still required a long night of many attempts, we pulled out all the stops and emerged victorious.

The Lower Spire of Icecrown Citadel has been cleared!

Icecrown Citadel: Our First Week

Icecrown Citadel

5th January 2010: Our first assault into Icecrown Citadel sees us defeat the Lich King's minions Lord Marrowgar and Lady Deathwhisper, and fend off the Alliance during The Gunship Battle, but the fallen hero Saurfang stands firm.

Although some guildmembers had ventured into Icecrown Citadel in previous weeks to scope out the lie of the land and kill some trash mobs for reputation, we had yet to organise ourselves into making some serious attempts on bosses. This week we changed that, and in style.

Lord Marrowgar was the first foe to be faced. Fairly simple in mechanics, we took little time to vanquish him, although we did have to first face the pain of a 5% wipe when a couple of mistakes saw the kill slip from our grasp.

Lady Deathwhisper was next up, and presented a little more difficulty. A couple of adjustments were made to our group setup to better manage the various elements of the fight, and soon after that she too fell.

Third up is The Gunship Battle, a simple encounter that in many ways represents a bonus; any guild able to defeat the first two encounters will face little difficulty here. We dispatched the treacherous Alliance forces swiftly, and pressed on to find a more worthy opponent.

Deathbringer Saurfang proved far more resilient than the previous encounters, and although we came close (our best attempt ended at 13%) he remains standing for the time being.
